A College App "Baked to Perfection"

“I’m not going to join the baking club because I don’t think it will look good to colleges,” a sophomore high school student, “Katie,” recently said to me. How sad! Why would she limit herself at such a young age especially when she loves to experiment in the kitchen (she has a gluten sensitivity which motivates her to find foods that will make her feel good and are yummy). And, her statement could not be further from the truth! Baking club, environmental club, debate or football, colleges look for kids who pursue their passions and are hungry to learn more (see what I did there?).
Before Launching Brand U, I helped build and market leading brands. The most successful brands were those that were true to their roots. No gimmicks, no tomfoolery. They simply leaned into what made them unique, creating bonds with consumers that lasted a lifetime.
Being genuine and authentic are the key elements to success for students building their own personal brands and getting ready to apply to college. Choose subjects to study that interest you, participate in (and ultimately lead) clubs that you are excited about, find ways to make an impact on your community tied to your passion and while you are at it, be kind to those you meet along the way.
Am I oversimplifying the college admissions process? Yeah, I guess I am but at the end of the day, be you, because that is not only beaUtiful but it will also reflect your true self, something Admissions Officers want to see. They read so many apps that they know when students are pursuing projects out of passion or out of parent persuasion.
So, if baking is your thing, get into the kitchen, create something delicious, work with a local soup kitchen and don't forget to send me some samples to taste :)
